Bargi boat tragedy: How the Narmada cruise had all the makings of a death trap

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday announced to provide five lakh emergency relief for the victims of the disaster-hit Dharali village in Uttarkashi district. Chief minister said relief will be given to the disaster victims to build houses completely destroyed in water and muck rain deluge brought by Khirganga River due to cloudburst on August 5.
Besides emergency compensation for rehabilitation and relocation of victims whose houses were completely damaged in Dharali disaster families of the deceased victims will also be given five lakh rupees compensation as financial help at the time of crisis.

The Chief Minister has also directed the officials to constitute a three-member committee to rehabilitate, restore and strengthen livelihoods of the villagers affected by the disaster. Dhami asked the committee to be headed by the state revenue secretary, will submit its preliminary report within a week. Committee has also been mandated to draft a long-term and sustainable policy for Dharali, ensuring safety and suggesting livelihood for the local community.

Meanwhile, efforts for the restoration of road connectivity to Dharali was still underway. More than 200 victims of the disaster and stranded tourists were rescued and shifted to safer locations on Saturday. This takes the figure for total rescued tourists and disaster victims to 931 in the last four days. As many as 729 disaster victims and tourists stranded at different places on way to Gangotri were rescued and airlifted to Harsil. Therefrom, rescued people were lifted to Matli ITBP camp Uttarkashi, Jolly Grant Airport Dehradun and Chinyalisaur.
